When Cailey turned 4 we began trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb. We got really serious when she turned 5. We bribed her with everything under the sun and she just wasn't interested. We tried several routes- we tried telling her that her friends would make fun of her. She'd simply shrug her shoulders and say she didn't care. We'd tell her she'd need braces and she'd say that's ok, i love my thumb! We are very very proud of her confidence and we feel pretty positive that no one will be able to talk her into something she doesn't want to do. I was at the point where I felt she would never stop sucking. THEN, we watched crazy things i'm addicted to show and the 24 year old sucking her thumb freaked cailey and i both out. So, i think thats when she became willing to try.
One day as we were going to the mall, someone as walking out with a build a bear box and she asked what it was. So i told her about it. She asked for one and i told her she could put it on her birthday list. after a few days of her asking about the "polar bear workshop" my light bulb went off. While i wasn't very hopeful, i offered her a build a bear if she stopped sucking her thumb. I'll never forget how she said "ok, i'm done!" And there ya have it! 8 days later, we rewarded her!
this is the bear she chose
she's holding the bear's heart in her hand and making a wish
pushing the pedal to stuff her bear
giving her bear a bath
she is seriously so happy!
we dressed her bear
we loved her bear
we named her bear-- cailey bear
I LOVE HER SMILE!!!
We are so very proud of you Cailey!!!!
